  1. What are the advantages of Excel Flood Light Luminaries?
Following are the advantages of Excel flood Light Luminaries.
1. Multiple pulsations:
Since the Ignitor is multiple pulse type and the advantage of multiple pulses type is that it can start lamp more easily which help to ensure life and performance of the lamp; as switching the lamp on and off again and again affects the life of the luminary.
2. Serial Connection:
In Excel Floodlight luminary instead of parallel connection, serial connection has been used. The advantage of this sort of connection is that high Voltage pulse (Approx. 5KV ) in the starting system applies only on the lamp and not on the ballast. In parallel connection the high voltage pulse applies on to the ballast as well as the lamp. The repeated high voltage pulses are very harmful to ballasts and this kind of ballasts need special insulation requirement to with stand the repeated high pulse voltage without any damage.
3. No Noise and Vibration in setting time:
Normally in all luminaries during setting duration too much noise and vibration is observed. In order to avoid this, the ballast, capacitor and Ignitor are fixed firmly with the steel sheets which in turn are fixed with the casing.
4. Ignitor; better than electronic Regulator:
Our Ignitor CD-7B is even better than electronic Ignitor because the pulse produced by an electronic Ignitor is higher frequency, and than it will more be influenced by the circuit distributed capacitance. Increasing of distributed capacitance will attenuate the pulse amplitude and fail in starting lamp. 2ndly due to the electronic components the electronic Ignitor will be sensitive to the temperatures and will fail to work under too high or too low working temperatures.

  1. What does it mean by "parallel and serial starting"?
      Parallel Connection:
Parellel Connection
      Serial Connection:
Parellel Connection
Ignitor produces high Voltage pulse approximately 5KV. It can be seen that high Voltage pulse in parallel connection applies directly across the ballast this high voltage pulse is very harmful for the ballast. In series connection the high voltage applies directly across the lamp so ballast remains safe.
  1. What will happen if Voltage applied is blow than the specified rating of the luminary?
In the starting of the luminary we need high voltage. Once it has started afterwards it don't need that much high voltage. The voltage rating specified shows that this luminary can be operated between 220V to 240V Range. If the voltage is less than 220V it will be difficult for the ballast and Ignitor to produce enough Voltage pulse to turn the light on if Voltage is more than 240V it will damage the insulation of the ballast because temperature will increase due to constant high voltage.

  1. Is it costly to operate such high Wattage luminaries?

The standard formula for the calculation of the Bill is following -

Usage Cost/Month= Units (KWH)/Month x cost/unit.

Where

Units (KWH)/Month= Wattage x operation time/day x no. of days per month / 1000

Applying this standard formula Bill for a specific luminary can be calculated. The readings will show that using Excel luminaries is always a cost friendly deal.

  1. The Glass used in the luminaries is tampered glass or ordinary glass?

As the heat production during operation is quite natural therefore ordinary glass can't be used and the glass is tempered glass. It is heat proof as well as excellent shock proof.

  1. What are the properties of a tempered glass and what is the difference between tempered glass and ordinary glass?

Toughened glass is typically four to six times the strength of annealed glass (stronger than the ordinary glass) and can withstand heating even in microwave ovens. Tempered glass is a type of glass that has increased strength and will usually shatter into small fragments when broken.

(Toughened glass must be cut to size or pressed to shape before toughening and cannot be re-worked once toughened.

  1. What is the purpose of Capacitor in the Flood light luminary?

The role of capacitor in this luminary is the power factor correction or improvement. When the power factor is improved the loss of power as Volt Ampere Reactive (VAR) is very small or the consumption of power in useful way (Watt) increases.

  1. What is the role of an Electric Ignitor in a luminary?

Most high intensity discharge lamps such as HPS and MH lamps are started with a pulse voltage higher than the supply voltage which is in the range of 0.6 to 5KV generally and the Ignitor produces this much high voltage to start these lamps. The high pulse voltage of the Ignitor disappears when the lamp is started.

  1. What are the temperature effects on the life of the luminary?

Temperature has a tremendous effect on the life expectancy of ballast and its related components. Therefore, it is important not to exceed the maximum ambient rating of the fixture.

Operating a fixture in environments that are cooler than its rated ambient temperature will greatly increase ballast life. It is generally accepted that for every 13° C drop below the fixture's rated ambient temperature, the life of the ballast doubles. Capacitor life is doubled when ambient temperatures drop 10° C below rating.
